Quick answers about Srinagar
How much does a flight to Srinagar cost from Delhi?
One-way flights from Delhi to Srinagar cost INR 3,500-8,000. IndiGo, SpiceJet, and GoFirst operate direct flights (1.5 hours). Prices spike in April-May and December. Book 3-4 weeks ahead.
Is Srinagar safe for tourists?
Tourist areas (Dal Lake, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Mughal Gardens) are generally safe. The army presence is high. Check the latest advisory before traveling. Avoid hartals (strikes) by following local news. Thousands of tourists visit safely each year.
How many days are enough for Srinagar?
3-4 days covers Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, and a day trip to Gulmarg. For Pahalgam (2 hours) and Sonmarg (3 hours), add 2 more days. A full Kashmir trip (Srinagar + Gulmarg + Pahalgam) needs 6-7 days.
When is the best time to see snow in Srinagar?
December to February for guaranteed snow. January is coldest (-5 C to 5 C). Roads to Gulmarg may close temporarily during heavy snowfall. Pack thermals, waterproof boots, and layers. Heating in houseboats is via kangri (coal pot) or electric heaters.
What should I buy in Srinagar?
Pashmina shawls (INR 3,000-50,000 depending on quality — buy from government-certified shops). Saffron from Pampore (INR 300-500/gram). Walnut wood carvings. Paper-mache boxes. Avoid touts at Dal Lake who overcharge — shop in Lal Chowk instead.
