November to April is peak season (27-33 C, calm seas). December-January is most expensive. May-October is monsoon — prices drop 30-50% and beaches are less crowded but some boat tours stop. The Vegetarian Festival (October) is unique.
Getting there
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is at the north end of the island. A taxi to Patong Beach takes 40-50 minutes (THB 800-1,000). To Kata/Karon, 50-60 minutes (THB 900-1,200). Airport minibuses (THB 200-250) are cheaper but slower. No rail connection.

Patong for nightlife, shopping, and Bangla Road (loud, crowded). Kata for families and couples (quieter, better sand). Nai Harn and Rawai are the least touristy. Kamala is a good middle ground — upscale but not rowdy.
